Over 3,000 volunteers joined us August 9 for Action Day, hosted by the Minnesota Lynx and Minnesota Timberwolves,  at the Target Center to help us reach our goal and pack 25,000 backpacks! Because of this incredible effort, when our hometown students go back to school this fall they’ll have the supplies they need to learn, succeed, and reach their full potential.

Read United Way staffer Jenna's take on this year's Action Day on gtcuw.org.

Local comedian, actor, and radio personality Shed G was back again as this year’s Action Day host; he kept volunteers inspired and energized throughout the day. Tunes at the event were provided by DJ Mad Mardigan—the Official DJ of the MN Timberwolves & Lynx.

In addition to volunteering, this all-ages, family-friendly event featured a Prize Playbook, games, prizes, photo booths and a mini-Crayola Experience.

We also announced next year’s event host: Minnesota Wild will be hosting Action Day 2019 at the Xcel Energy Center!

Backpacks assembled at Action Day have been distributed to over 50 Twin Cities nonprofits and will be given to children in need.
