Do you know a high school junior who is making a difference in the Greater Twin Cities area through volunteering? Could that student benefit from a $2,500 post-secondary education scholarship?

If so, the young person you know could be eligible for the 2019 Juliet Evans Nelson Scholarship.

In 1987, the scholarship was established to honor the memory of Juliet Evans Nelson, a young woman who was committed to helping her community through volunteerism. Each year a high school junior is recognized for volunteer contributions to the community with this scholarship of $2,500 to be applied to post-secondary education.

In addition to receiving the scholarship, the student will be required to coordinate a Volunteer United volunteer project(s) with his or her school or community group during the 2019-2020 school year. Volunteer United is Greater Twin Cities United Way’s group volunteer program matching local volunteer groups with volunteer projects at United Way partner agencies.

Just have the student complete the online application.

Deadline: Applications must be completed, including letters of recommendation, no later than Friday, May 31. Contact Lynette Commodore at or call 612-340-7524 with any questions.
